What is metabolism?
A person’s metabolism is the rate at which their body burns calories for energy. The speed of metabolism depends on a variety of factors, including age, sex, body fat, muscle mass, activity level, and genetics.

How to increase metabolism?
While people has no control over the genetic aspects of their metabolism they can increase their metabolism by making healthful changes to their diet and lifestyle. Eating at consistent times is one of them, the body relies on balance and regularity. Eating at consistent times may help maintain metabolic balance. When a person eats a lot, they can go for long periods without eating, in such situations they tend to skip meals resulting the body to burn less calories and store more fat cells. Ideally, a person should eat several small meals or snacks about 3 or 4 hours apart. Some people skip meals as a way to lose weight. However, this can negatively impact metabolism. Eating too few calories can cause a person’s metabolism to slow down so the body can conserve energy. Adult need between 1,600 and 2,400 calories a day
Incorporating strength training and HIIT into a workout helps build muscle, which increase metabolism. Muscle mass has a higher metabolic rate than fat, which means that muscle mass requires more energy to preserve. Like strength training, HIIT can increase metabolism HIIT is an alternative to steady cardio.

And when a person doesn’t sleep and takes a lot of stress the body produces more cortisol (hormone that helps regulate appetite) Abnormal cortisol results in disordered eating which includes dietary restraint and certain weight concerns, leads to unhealthful eating patterns, which disrupts metabolism.
