7. Komatsu

 

 

Komatsu is renowned for serving exquisite fresh fish dishes that will satisfy every fish lover out there. The Michelin Guide, recommends the sublime flavour of the hamo dashi (fish stock) used in creating this fantastically delicious dishes, which is complemented with stunning presentation. The seating arrangement is limited but allows you to talk to the chef as he cooks up your choice of dishes.

6. Ikkon

 

 

 

Nestled in the busy back streets of Katamachi shopping district is this cozy little ryōtei (料亭). With only 8 seats, you can delight in the beautiful “Kaiseki”, a multi-course Japanese dinner. If you are lucky enough to be here in November or December you must try the “Kobako-Gani”, which means female snow crab. Don’t forget to book in advance as this is a very popular restaurant and with only 8 seats it gets snapped up quickly.

5. Rocca

 

 

Rocca also serves Kaiseki and is owned by a chef who previously worked in Kyoto (the capital of ryotei). As a chef who prides himself on producing authentic recipes, it comes as no surprise that he will only use fresh ingredients to produce his famous courses. We would utterly recommend that you try the chestnut soup and pepper-flavoured squash. Oishi.

4. Kifune

 

 

Kifune is an extremely popular restaurant and the food it delivers is worth a couple of months on a waiting list. We urge you to try the masterpiece of abalone that has been slowly steamed for 3 hours and Himi udon (wheat noodles) tossed with liver and butter. If that doesn’t tickle your taste buds then perhaps try the spring bowl with sesame tofu, green peas, raw kuchiko (dried sea-cucumber ovaries) and shirauo (Japanese ice fish). Top this off with some delicious sake and you are in for a great evening.

At Zeniya, Chef Shinichiro Takagi carefully hand-picks every ingredient and detail of decor. This allows him to make each creation a perfect balance between deliciousness and harmony. Zeniya has a rich history and being a family run restaurant, handed down a generation, it also has a strong tradition, combined with a beautiful atmosphere. We recommend that you tuck into the mouth-watering sea urchin and soy sauce brown sugar ice cream.

2. Suginoi

 

 

 

Suginoi is a sublime restaurant that offers a traditional atmosphere in a beautiful location. It’s located along the Saigawa River that runs through the center of Kanazawa city, Ishikawa. This restaurant not only boasts 6 private rooms, each have their own different design while enjoying the beautiful garden. We recommend that you try the succulent “Jibuni” which is made with boiled duck.

1. Tsuruko

 

 

Tsuruko started as a small restaurant with just a few counter seats and is now one of the most famous ryotei’s in Kanazawa. Run by the founder’s son, one of his speciality dishes is lobster shinjoand chawanmushi with foie gras. One of Tsuruko’s charms is that they incorporate innovative ideas with seasonal ingredients into every dish.
