5 Lip tips to help you achieve healthy lips
It’s good to have soft, full-looking lips, but the most important thing is to keep your lips hydrated and healthy. If you’re like the majority of people, though, your lips won’t look smooth, pink, or plump unless you pay special attention to the skin around your mouth. Continue reading to discover tips and tricks for hydrated, healthy lips!
1. Exfoliate weekly
Exfoliating extracts dead and dried skin from the lips, leaving them shiny. Wipe your lips with a lip scrub, a toothbrush, or a washcloth to prevent flaky skin. Remember to be gentle to prevent hurting yourself!
These days, you can make your own lip scrub out of natural ingredients. But remember not to exfoliate too often as it may make your skin sensitive.
2. Wear lip balm
In one 2005 study, it was found that of 299 people who applied sunscreen to their body correctly, only 37 percent also used lip protection. Not many people know this, but your lips need sun protection too!
Before you head out each day, be sure to apply some lip balm with at least SPF 15 on your lips. Ointment-based lip balms help to lock in moisture and shield your lips from harmful UV rays!
3. Stay away from products with harsh chemicals
In a bid to look beautiful, many of us opt for lipsticks or products that claim to make your lips look full, plump, and pink. However, these products usually contain harsh chemicals that can irritate or dry out your lips.
Instead, opt for natural, fragrance-free products when you look for lip balm, lipstick, or lip gloss. Some ingredients that you should avoid are camphor, eucalyptus, fragrance, lanolin, menthol, octinoxate, oxybenzone, phenol (or phenyl), propyl gallate, and salicylic acid.
4. Get a humidifier
If your office is particularly dry due to the air conditioner, set up a humidifier in your workplace to keep your lips moisturized throughout the day. Dry air can irritate your lips.
5. Remove make up before bed
Let’s face it, many of us are too lazy to remove our make up after we get home from a long day. But going to sleep with make up is bad for your skin. This same logic applies to your lips as well.
Give your lips a soft swipe with a makeup-removing wipe before you touch the couch, even when you see that there’s no visible lipstick or product on them at the end of the day!
